Hey, Kid...

Does your child answer to his/ her name? That's a really important skill for daily communication! It's also a safety issue. Little Johnny needs to answer your call pretty quickly if you notice he is heading toward danger. If your little seems to have difficulty answering to their name, let's talk.

How many times must you call your little's name? Once, twice, five times?

As a clinician, I aim for a child to answer/ acknowledge a call of their name within 3 calls. If they don't look by the third call, I encourage parents to offer a touch cue. Over time, this helps the child recognize the expectation to acknowledge your call.

It may be extra work to have to stop what you are doing to make the correction, but trust me, it will pay off in the end!
